London, England September 22nd, 2002
Show Open:
We open the show with Vampiro backstage asking wrestlers if they
have seen Jerry Lawler. Vampiro is in a bad mood, and when he finally gives
up knowing he can't find him he tosses a garbage can down the hall.
Backstage:
AJ Styles walks into Cold Cabanas locker room giving him a small pep talk
before his match with Ales Shelley. AJ tells Colt that the New Europe are
harsh and Harry Smith beating AJ yesterday was not a fluke. He got the best
of him that night.
Cabana says he has been trying to get back on the big stage in the USWA for
awhile now and hes excited to be opening the card in London. He needs this
victory bad!
Alex Shelley pinned Colt Cabana with the Shell Shock in 0:11:43.
Rating: *** 3/4
Things didn't go Cabanas way in this one and he seemed very frustrated
about it. AJ Styles came out to help Cabana back to the locker room after
his defeat.
First Blood Match:
Low-Ki defeated CM Punk in 0:04:34.
Rating: ** 1/2
The Third match in this best of 7 went to Low-Ki and gives him the 2-1 lead
on Punk. Punk was busted open when Low-Ki exposed the steel turnbuckle and
smashed Punks head into it. Low Ki has momentum going into match 4, which will
take place on the October 5th edition of Velocity TV.
Doug Williams pinned Konnan with the Northern Lights Suplex in 0:09:12.
Rating: *** 3/4
Doug Williams with a TON of fan support behind him gets the victory over
Konnan with help from his tag partner Harry Smith. This match was more
than what anyone expected when it came to actual wrestling. With
Harry Smith coming out as the distractor the entire match Konnan was
more than off his game. Williams victory puts New Europe at 2-0
on the night.
12-Man Tag Team Battle Royal:
Universo 2000 and Super Crazy won a 6-team Battle Royal:
x Universo 2000 defeated Bull Pain (partner: Ox Harley) after
a flying bodypress in 0:00:33
x Universo 2000 defeated Smith (partner: Doug Williams) after
a spinebuster slam in 0:00:40
x Universo 2000 threw out C. Harris (partner: Bobby Duncum Jr.) after
a clothesline in 0:00:56
x Universo 2000 threw out Sandman (partner: Trevor Murdoch) in 0:01:00
x Crazy threw out J.C. Ice (partner: Wolfie D) after
a kick to the thigh in 0:05:53
Rating: ** 3/4
(Ulf Hermann no-showed.)
In the 6-Man Battle Royal to determine the number one contenders, South of the
Border will be leaving Europe with a chip on their shoulder, knowing that a tag
title match is in their future. Universo 2000 just went crazy in this match
getting rid of a member of every team and leaving PG-13's J.C. Ice for Super
Crazy to finish off. PG-13 had a little shoving contest with eachother after the
match, but in the end they hugged and left the ring area. Universo 2000 really
turned some heads in this one.
Towel Match:
Too Cold Scorpio (w/Sean Waltman) defeated Jerry Lynn (w/Steve Bradley) with
a Frankensteiner in 0:28:11.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Too Cold Scorpio won the X-Division Title.)
In one of the most highly anticipated matches of the night 2 Cold Scorpio
once again becomes the X-Division champion in a WILD match. Nobody in the
audience knew who the towel holders would be going into this match. Jerry Lynn
announced his friend Steve Bradley would be the one holding the towel for him.
2 Cold came out and shocked everyone when he brought out Jerry Lynn's bitter
rival Sean Waltman. Everyone knows Waltman and Lynn started their careers facing
one another throughout the indy's, now Scorpio brings Waltman to the USWA!
The match was back and forth until Scorpio hits Lynn with his Frankensteiner
and Bradley throws in the towel. The match was over, but Lynn wasn't exactly
in any pain. Bradley jumps in the ring and Lynn picks up the towel asking
Bradley why he threw it in. Bradley sits there as Waltman and Scorpio attack
Lynn from behind. Bradley doesn't try to help his friend, instead, while Lynn
is layed out, Bradley climbs the ropes and hits his moonsault on Lynn!
Waltman, Scorpio and Bradley raise eachothers hands as the Ref drapes the
X-Division title around Scorpio's waist.
AJ Styles pinned Latin Lover with the Styles Clash in 0:07:43.
Rating: *** 1/4
Styles gets a victory over the Latin Lover in some friendly competition.
Christopher Daniels pinned Nigel McGuinness after a waistlock suplex in 0:10:40
.
Rating: *** 1/4
(Christopher Daniels retained the Global Title.)
In our Main Event of the evening Christopher Daniels does the impossible
by getting a victory over Nigel McGuinness in his own hometown. The fans
were ready to riot and Daniels took off before any trouble could start, but
Nigel couldn't seal the deal and get the victory over our current Global
Champion Christopher Daniels!
Falls-Count-Anywhere Match:
Vampiro pinned Jerry Lawler after a power bomb in 0:10:06.
Rating: ***
In an impromptu matchup, Vampiro gave Jerry Lawler a beatdown he might never
forget. After the Global match Vampiro hit the ring and took the mic stating
he wouldn't be leaving the arena until Lawler showed his face!
Lawler comes out and Vampiro tells Jerry that he has no business being at the
aid of Taz, because he is supposed to be the President of this company.
Vampiro tells the ref to ring the bell and that if Lawler wanted to stick his
nose in his personal business he better be prepared to suffer the consequences
like any other wrestler in the USWA. The bell rings and we had a falls count
anywhere MAIN EVENT! Lawler tried to hold his own but this match was just to
brutal for a man who hasn't wrestled in over a year and a half.
Vampiro stood over a bloody Jerry Lawler and told him that this is only phase
one of the beating he has in store for him.
Card rating: *** 1/4
Match observations:
Backstage Notes:
We wrapped up the European tour tonight with our big show in London and had
several major events take place in this one.
First, to the shock of almost everyone in the company Christopher Daniels
defeated Nigel to retain his Global title. I think everyone was sure that
Nigel was being gift wrapped the title here, but Daniels proved why he is one
of the best wrestlers in the company, and this victory really has people
respecting him as the champion. It's pretty clear that Daniels will most
likely be the opponent who is defending the Global Title against the winner
of the CM Punk/ Low Ki Best of 7 series.
The X-Division Title picture has just heated up to new extremes. It seems
that 2 Cold has the services of Sean Waltman and Steve Bradley at his
side and with that kind of protection it might be hard for Lynn to get that
title back anytime soon. Coming from the offices I can tell you another former
USWA title holder has signed a new contract with the USWA and will probably
end up getting involved in this new twist on the Scorpio/Jerry Lynn feud.
The final major storyline would be the total distruction of our President
Jerry Lawler. When Lawler agreed to help Taz keep outside interference out of
the title match with Vampiro, I don't think he figured to be a target of
Vampiro, but thats exactly how it's gone down. Lawler was bloody and beaten
and with all this nonsense going on, I'm sure the OWNER of the USWA, Jeff
Jarrett is going to have to comment on this matter.
Rumor has it that Lawler might be out of action for awhile and that an interum
president will be named. Some of the names floating around include Reggie B. Fine,
Brickhouse Brown, Brian Christopher and even Buddy Landell! Jarrett is still
very loyal to all the original members of the USWA and I wouldn't be surprised
to see any or all of them make their way back to the company in some way or
another.
We will be headed back to the states for a Velocity TV taping on September
28th, and Jeff Jarrett will announce the Location for this years A Night to
Remember! It's the USWA's version of WrestleMania!
